Overview
More than 80% of patients seek medical attention due to pain. The need to have their pain under control is one of the patient rights. Hence pain has been considered as important as the vital signs. Pain has to be assessed as frequently as vital signs. This enables nurses to undertake timely action for pain. However, there are many aspects of pain assessment, reassessment, and management. The basic principles of pain assessment with the most common scales are discussed in the course. This section also introduces you to a new tool for postoperative pain assessment and management.
The common lapses from nurses in regard to pain management are dealt with in this course. This course should enable any nurse to understand the critical role she/he plays in the pain management of patients in the hospital.
